By: Yellow-crested Cockatoo – birdfinding.info https://birdfinding.info/citron-crested-cockatoo/#comment-852 Fri, 27 Aug 2021 21:26:57 +0000 https://birdfinding.info/?p=100824#comment-852 […] Birdfinding.info ⇒  The Yellow-crested Cockatoo is a charming, charismatic species, which has been heavily persecuted for the illegal cagebird trade to the point that it has been declared critically endangered.  Its range in recent times was quite large, including most of Sulawesi and several other substantial islands, and it is conceivable that localized populations may persist unmolested in some isolated areas, but its known populations have declined precipitously.  The remnant native population most often seen by foreign visitors is in Indonesia’s Komodo National Park.  It can also be found in the central hill country of Timor-Leste.  The distinctive western subspecies abbotti still persists on tiny, remote Masakambing Island in the Java Sea.  In Hong Kong, the large introduced population is readily seen in the vicinity of Hong Kong Park and the nearby Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Garden.  The small Singaporean population is found mainly on Sentosa Island.  (For the Sumba form, see “Citron-crested Cockatoo”.)
